I spend a lot of time browsing through indie games and games still early in development—flipping through Web pages, searching through forums, and seeing a lot of… interesting projects. But every now and then a game just makes me stop for a moment, watch every video it has, and just stare at its art. Maker’s Tale (http://makers-tale.com/#!prettyPhoto) is one such game.

The game, being developed by two people, is still in early development, but is nearing a playable release. Information is still scarce, but the developers state “Maker’s Tale game play takes place on a tabletop board game that has sprung to life in the imagination of a young boy named Maker.”

The tabletop board game style is really interesting. It has the usual grid-based board, only in full 3D that changes according to the in-game time. Animations looks smooth, characters and monsters have a cartoonish charm to them.

The game itself is a blend of fantasy RTS combat, but with a sandbox environment that lets players rebuild the level as they play.

We’ll keep you updated on this one, but in the meantime check out the video and a few of the screenshots below.
